NED University of Engineering & Technology, established in its current form in March 1977, is one of Pakistan?s most prestigious and oldest engineering institutions. Its roots trace back to 1921 with the founding of the NED Government Engineering College, which was initially created to provide technical training for major infrastructure projects like the Sukkur Barrage. Named after philanthropist Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw following significant family donations, the institution has evolved from a small college of 50 students into a massive university serving nearly 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university moved to its current 40-hectare main campus in 1975, a transition supported by the World Bank to accommodate its growing academic scope and student population.

Leading Socio-Economic Transformation Through Research

Beyond its historical Karachi roots, NED University has expanded its reach to include specialized campuses and constituent colleges. This includes the NED LEJ Campus for Bio-Medical Engineering and the Thar Institute of Engineering, Sciences & Technology (TIEST) in Mithi, established in 2019 to support the developing power and coal industries in the Tharparkar district. Driven by a vision to be a leader in Pakistan's socio-economic transformation, the university focuses on research excellence across engineering and allied disciplines.
